Boulder 28
Abilene 6
Types: TE Bud Wipe 11 catches 154 yards 3 TDs.
Bad Guys: QB Stu Padasso 8/24 passes 85 yards, 9 rushes 65 yards.

Types expose Bad Guys

Without starting running back Wayne King for a second week, the Boulder Types did have a very slim running game, but this time, as opposed to their loss to Idaho that also gave up their division title, QB Pierre Pressure passed for 354 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Bud Wipe had all three of those TD catches and 154 of those passing yards on 11 catches. Meanwhile, the Types were able to hold off the Abilene running game and all but shut down the pass. The Bad Guys were without starting wide receiver Ike Hill. Boulder will get Wayne King back for their next playoff game against Little Rock.

The teams traded short possessions until Boulder got a short field with a punt to only the 50 and 16-yard return, using only five plays to cover the 34 yards. Wipe scored with a 12-yard pass from Pressure. Boulder improvised a 2-point converstion on a busted play from the extra point kick attempt. The Types scored again on a longer drive at the beginning of the second quarter, then traded field goals with Abilene for an 18-3 halftime lead.

Abilene consumed nearly half the third quarter with a 14-play drive that ended on the Boulder seven-yard line, turning possession over on downs. The Types drove from there all the way to score again, effectively clinching the game, as Abilene was unable to mount a scoring threat, besides a field goal.

Amityville 23
Maryland 29 OT
Horrors: WR Hugo Gurl 10 catches 135 yards, 74 yard punt return TD.
Monroes: RB Rowdy van Duud 17 rushes 92 yards 3 TDs, 1 catch 3 yards.

Monroes stun Horrors

The Maryland Monroes, who blew the NE division lead then squeaked into the playoffs on the final week of the season with a narrow win and the help of a Flint loss, have continued the woes of the longsuffering Amityville fans by ending their playoff campaign too short once again. The game was a scrappy, sloppy afair, just as Maryland wanted to drag down the offense of the second best team in the Eastern Conference.

The lead changed nine times. The only player Maryland was unable to stop was Amityville's ace, wide receiver Hugo Gurl, responsible for more than half their passing yards and a 74-yard punt return for a TD that evened the score after running back Rowdy van Duud scored first for Maryland on 21-yard run.

Maryland quarterback Jethro Upp, the East leader in passing composite but know for his scrambling, had only 152 yards passing and -6 yards rushing on 6 carries (counting sacks). But Van Duud and running mate Leveon Rose carried the weight for the Monroes, the latter adding 72 yards and a TD rushing.

When Van Duud scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter, Maryland failed on the extra point attempt, allowing the Horrors to tie the game again on a 20-yard Edmund Hustler field goal with about two minutes remaining. In overtime, had even more thrilling wild turns. Horror running back Lyle Little returned the OT opening kickoff 50 yards to the Maryland 42. But on the next play, the Monroes picked off Amityville quarterback Houghton Holler at their own 20. Maryland then blew their chance, missing a 51-yards field goal and giving the ball back to Amityville. But the Horrors also failed to win on an even easier 36-yard field goal attempt. Finally Maryland drover from their own 22 on 12 plays to an 8-yard TD run by Van Duud.

This result also gives the Maine Attractions the next playoff game at home. Maryland will travel there next weekend.
