New Jerseys Smother DonsOrlando was going according to the plan for success on the first drive of the game, the plan that Amityville and Columbus used to beat the New Jerseys just a few weeks ago. The Dons consumed nearly half of the first quarter on a 14-play drive, keeping the ball way from the New Jerseys offense. The trouble was, the Dons failed to score. With a third down and five yards to go at the New Jerseys 7-yard line, the Dons went for a field goal, barely more than an extra point attempt, and missed even that. The New Jerseys scored on a methodical drive of their own to burn nearly the last half of the quarter, then in the 2nd quarter turned a fumble by Orlando running back Love Macon into a touchdown. On the first play from scrimmage for the second half, New Jerseys RB Hyam D. Wahlroos ran 65 yards for a TD, and the Jerseys broke it open. After a three-and-out for the Dons, the New Jerseys scored on their next drive and the game was over. They added an icing score in the 4th. Wahlroos finished with 117 yards and 2 TDs, showing how he's been been as explosive as running mate Juan Moorehead, who had 46 yards and a TD. The Dons minimized him, but Wahlroos made them pay. And of course the Dons couldn't contain tight end Bud Ugly, the spearhead of the New Jerseys offense. QB Upton O'Good passed for 224 yards and 2 TDs, a modest day's work for a lopsided win, while the Dons couldn't turn the wide receiver contest to their advantage, QB Zack Lee Wright held to just 146 yards passing. The New Jerseys travel to Amityville for a rematch of the regular season game won by the latter. |

Linemen Tread LogsBoth teams followed their pattern of the last few weeks, but how that led to a narrow Wichita victory was a matter of suspense through three and a half quarters. Once again, since his injury, Lincoln WR Homer Sekshule was held under 100 yards receiving, and once again without WR Ringo Fire, Wichita turned to the running game, mostly Milo Rider. A big difference, however, was Adolph DeFlore, who had a dominant game over Sekshule and despite being without Fire. Both Lincoln's Jason Butterfleis and Wichita's Payne Indiass, the two best passing quarterbacks in the West this season, passed for less than 200 yards. The Logs built a 13-0 lead before the Linemen scored to make it 13-7 at the half. Then Wichita continued their streak, scoring twice in the 3rd to make it 21-13. When Lincoln then scored at the beginning of the 4th, the 2nd TD pass to WR Evan Jelek with Sekshule drawing double coverage, they went for a 2-point conversion, RB Kit E. Diddler carrying in to tie the game at 21. But on the next drive, the Linemen again used their wily switch of runs by Indiass and Rider, then bigger chunk passes to DeFlore over the middle to drive to the Lincoln 4. the Wichita played it safe with the field goal, but that's all they needed. Lincoln went 3 and out on the next drive, and Wichita finished off the game with another long drive nearly to a score again. The defending West champ Linemen have found away to keep their season alive again, as they head to meet their new division champ Monterey. |
