Attractions Top Waves to Make Big Show

Maine is finally going to the Hyperbowl, and that means so is Xavier Breath. The veteran running back has put off retirement the last several years because Maine has come so close, only to see his team turned away. This time in the last step, it was Breath himself who made sure, and it was a necessary effort, because the Macon Waves did not make it easy. With the scored tied at 13 in the third quarter, Breath had runs of 36 and 33 yards in a drive to a 22-yard Noam Sayn field goal. It proved to be the winning score. A blocked punt on Macon's next possession was returned to their own 2-yard line, and two plays later, Maine RB Juarez Hell carried in for the insurance TD. Breath didn't have to do it entirely alone. For the second straight game WR Cole Esterhal came up big when star WR Lou Screws was held in check. The Waves stuffed Screws: only one catch for six yards. Macon RB Moe Lester was mostly Macon's offense again, as veteran QB Boyd Bwane was allowed only 100 yards passing, even less than the Waves allowed Maine's Jock Rash.

Ghosts Run into Linemen, Indiass

Not so fast to another Hyperbowl, Casper. You stepped over Wichita. The rise of the Ghosts was quick, despite setbacks, resulting in a league championship last year. But since the arrival of QB Payne Indiass, the Hyperbowl has been anticipated for the Linemen. Although WR Adolph DeFlore and RB Milo Rider, who had a breakout playoff performance in the last game, are certainly big parts of the cause, Indiass showed just how much difference he can make, amounting here to a runaway win over the defending league champs, even after the Ghosts posted a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Indiass threw for 301 yards for the second straight playoff game, and as if that wasn't enough, rushed for 106, including a 46-yard dash after eluding a sack that recalled his famous performance at DeSade S&M in an upset of State Pen in the 2003 SCAB championship. DeFlore was big, too, providing Indiass's main target, with 9 catches for 125 yards, upstaging Casper's marquis WR I.B. Long who had spearheaded their previous win. The Ghosts, whose franchise has won three Hyperbowls, will have to try again next year, though they are still loaded for that. The Linemen return to the Hyperbowl for the first time since 1996, when they lost to Nashville.
