Stranglers Shock Horrors in ThrillerIn one of the wildest shoot-outs in playoff history, the Stranglers scored 3 touchdowns in the first quarter, then scored step for step with the Horrors to keep the lead. Amityville got as close as 9 points, 34-25 in the 3rd, after a 36-yard TD run by RB Curtis Interruptis. But the Horrors, who had one of the best defenses in the league, inexplicably could not stop Boston. The Stranglers scored off Amityville mistakes, such as after a blocked punt and a botched punt attempt, but the blame still falls to the Horror defense. Boston QB Anson Pants struck the first note, a 41-yard TD run. That was stunning enough, but still gave no idea of the deluge to come. Pants finished with 225 yards and 3 TDs passing, and 74 yards and the TD rushing. He threw 2 interceptions, which helped in Amityville's comeback attempts. Boston WR Luke St. Everything caught 10 passes for 99 yards and 2 TDs. TE Marky DeSade caught 7 for 92 yards. K Spike Heels hit 3 of 3 field goal attempts. Amityville QB Pierce Deer threw for only 177 yards, but 3 TDs. WR Jacques Therapy caught 7 passes for 104 yards and 2 TDs. Veteran RB Curtis Interruptis, who rushed for 62 yards and a TD, will miss yet another chance to win a Hyperbowl. Boston advances to face Eastern Conference leader Manhattan.

Jacks Double Up on BulletsA week made a lot of difference, but for the Dodge Bullets, in the wrong direction. The two division foes played their regular season game last weekend in Dodge, knowing they would most likely be in the playoff matchup. Monterey won that game 14-0. The Bullets, who had led the Central Division before losing 4 of their division games, including a blowout at the hands of Las Vegas, had even less of chance in this one after the first half. The halftime score was Monterey 13-10. But the Jacks scored on their first 2 possessions of the second half, then 2 more times in the 4th to leave the Bullets in the dust. Monterey, in their first playoff appearance since 1993, spent much of those last years as a league doormat and got several high draft picks. It was their first-round picks of the past 3 seasons who did all the damage in this game. QB Heller Highwater completed 25 of 36 passes for 300 yards and 4 TDs. His former Lady Warship teammate, RB Buster Hymen, rushed for 95 yards and a TD. And the latest draft pick, rookie sensation WR Ira Fuse, caught 12 passes for 117 yards and a TD. Dodge QB Nicholson Dimes was stymied in the 2nd half, finishing with a paltry 156 yards passing. Monterey next travels to Los Angeles.
